Starting Over in Karratha: Sewing, Setbacks & (Finally) Reopening

If 2025 had a theme, it would be: one thing after another.
Between relocating to Karratha, prepping our Perth house for rent, and a sudden trip to New Zealand to care for my stepdad after his stroke — sewing has had to take a back seat. Life doesn’t exactly wait for a good time, does it?
But now, after what feels like a year-long juggling act, I’m finally starting to get my sh*t together. And that means: The Crafty Seamstress is (almost) back.
✂️ The New Chapter: Smaller Studio, Sharper Focus
With the move to Karratha, I’m restructuring my business to better suit my space, my family, and the kind of work I actually want to do. That includes:
🧵 Private sewing lessons for adults and teens
🪡 Parent & child sewing sessions
✂️ “Learn to do your own alterations” classes
I'll also still be taking on custom dressmaking and bridal/evening wear alterations, but on a case-by-case basis. Space is limited (literally and mentally), so I’ll be working with clients who are the right fit for what I can offer here.
🧷 Why the Shift?
Because sewing full-time for others while managing mum life and three dogs in regional WA is a recipe for burnout. And also because I’ve seen how transformative it is when people learn to sew for themselves.
Sewing isn’t just a skill — it’s independence. It’s saying “I don’t need fast fashion” or “I can fix that myself” or “I made this with my own two hands.” I want to help more people feel that.
I think everyone should be empowered to learn basic sewing skills, as these are useful in daily life. Whether it's sewing on a button that came off or hemming a skirt that's been unworn for months because it's too long, these skills are valuable.

🪡 Reopening Plans (Fingers Crossed)
If all goes well (no more emergencies, thanks), I’ll be reopening for lessons and select client projects by the end of August 2025.
Appointments will be limited to ensure I don’t overcommit and can give each student or client the time they deserve. I’ll be using an online intake form to help match people to the right class or service.
📍If You’re New Here
Hi, I’m Anastasia — the person behind The Crafty Seamstress. I care a lot about clothes that fit properly, sewing that’s practical and empowering, and keeping things honest. I’m not a big fan of fast fashion, I love seeing people get excited about learning new things, and I run everything from home (yes, there’s fabric on the dining table and thread on the floor).
If you’re local to Karratha or nearby, I’d love to have you join me in this next chapter — whether that’s learning to sew, getting your wedding dress altered, or just cheering on from the sidelines.
